Stephen L. Schechter was Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Russell Sage College where he taught from 1978-2020. He was a longtime Fellow and Vice-President of the Center for the Study of Federalism and a member of the State Academy for Public Administration’s Board for many years, serving as its Program Director. Dr. Schechter was instrumental in restructuring and reinvigorating the Essentials in Public Administration Program, which provides new public administrators an opportunity to learn more about relevant issues and to network with other public administration professionals.
We were very pleased to recognize 37 individuals who successfully completed the 2024-2025 Stephen L. Schechter Essentials in Public Sector Leadership Program. This class was nominated by Rockefeller College’s MPA Alumni Office, the Center for Women in Government and Civil Society, a SAPA Fellow, or senior manager within their organization. Nine sessions were held covering topics including ethics, diversity, servant leadership, working within government bureaucracy, workforce trends, and institutional-versus program-orientation.
Congratulations to the 2025 Essentials Program graduates! Check back soon for more Essentials photos.
