Standing together in support of Black Lives Matter: We at SAPA are appalled by the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers, a blatant example of violent racism against people of color in America. Furthermore, we recognize the prevalence of systemic institutional racism in government administration and service. As leaders in the field of public administration, we pledge to respond with action, not just with words, to address the racism which is traumatizing whole segments of our society. SAPA pledges to diversify membership and build programming aimed at helping NYS public administrators recognize biases and identify racism. We hope this increased awareness will influence policy changes and practices as we strive for equity in service to the citizens of New York State.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic,  SAPA has cancelled the 2020 ExcellenExcellence Award Logoce Awards Program (scheduled for May 28).  Next year we’ll pick up where we left off.  Remaining programs for the spring also have been cancelled.

Welcome to the New York State Academy for Public Administration (SAPA). The State Academy was formed in 1974, harnessing the energy and expertise of our academic and practitioner Fellows who are dedicated to continual improvement of public service. It is a unique organization that serves and is served by New York State’s Public Administration Professionals.

Our launch twelve years ago of the Candid Conversations series of brown bag lunches became more successful with each session as word of the discussions and topics spread.  Hundreds more have benefited from thoughtful policy programs co-sponsored by our partners at the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy and the Rockefeller Institute of Government.  In 2018-19 we re-introduced the Essentials in Public Administration Program which is designed to provide New Professionals an opportunity to network with one another and with mid-career and senior public administrators.

We hope that as you learn more about the Academy that you will want to become an Academy Fellow, Associate Fellow or New Professional, or nominate a colleague that demonstrates the very best in public service!
