We at SAPA are appalled by the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers, a blatant example of violent racism against people of color in America. Furthermore, we recognize the prevalence of systemic institutional racism in government administration and service. As leaders in the field of public administration, we pledge to respond with action, not just with words, to address the racism which is traumatizing whole segments of our society. SAPA pledges to diversify membership and build programming aimed at helping NYS public administrators recognize biases and identify racism. We hope this increased awareness will influence policy changes and practices as we strive for equity in service to the citizens of New York State.
