Welcome to the State Academy for Public Administration (SAPA). The State Academy has been a unique public administration brain trust in New York State for 38 years, harnessing the energy and expertise of our academic and practitioner Fellows to improve the public service. Our launch two years ago of the Candid Conversations series of brown bag lunches became more successful with each session as word of the discussions and topics spread. Our nationally-recognized Essentials of Public Administration training program had graduated nearly 300 government managers since 2001. Responsibility for the Program has been assumed by New York State, which uses Essentials to educate and orient today’s public administrators in the inner workings of government. Hundreds more have benefited from thoughtful policy programs co-sponsored by our partners at the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, the Government Law Center at Albany Law School, and the Empire State Capital Area Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). The Executive Service Corps of the Tri-Cities (ESCOT) engages Fellows as volunteer consultants to local government and non-profit organizations.
